Doors

Let's face it: no one is ever going to "ooh and aah" over doors, chairs, and trash bins. When these things are missing or broken, however, then we notice them. Floors

The floor in this auditorium anteroom was in very bad shape. Several planks had rotted through or broken, there were a hundred years of built up grime, food stains, scratches, scuffs and general filth. The floor was passed the point of sanding and refinishing; it needed to be replaced. The anteroom is roughly 130 square feet. A small staircase leading up to the stage had to be removed and the baseboard molding and trim was in very bad shape throughout or missing altogether in some places.

The Floor in the auditorium anteroom

When I started removing the old floor I discovered that there was no sub floor. I suspect the the floor in the anteroom was the sub floor that ran throuhgout the rest of the auditorium. A finished floor has simply never been installed in this section for some reason.

I installed a new tongue-in-groove oak floor over a 3/4 -nch plywood sub floor. I put 15-pound felt paper between the sub floor and the finished floor to minimize the possibility of squeeking. I created new baseboard molding and a shoe molding. The entire floor was sanded and finished with three coates of polyurethane.

Miscellaneous

There are a thousand little things around your space that no one notices until they break or go missing. Psalm boards, notice boards, hall mirrors, things of that nature.
